Free online subtitle and caption editor
Add caption text to a video, set when each line appears, and preview captions during playback. Download a separate SRT or WebVTT subtitle file for your editing or publishing workflow. Video and text are processed in your browser and are not uploaded.
Create and time captions by hand
- Load a local video: Preview a video format your browser supports, without uploading the file.
- Add caption cues: Play or seek to a moment, add a caption, and edit its text and start and end times.
- Check the timing: Select a cue to jump back to its start and preview the caption over the video.
- Export a subtitle file: Download captions as SubRip (SRT) or WebVTT (VTT), ready to use in compatible video editors and platforms.
Your video stays on your device
The editor uses your browser to play the selected video and prepare subtitle files. It does not upload, store, or transcribe your video. Supported video formats depend on your browser and device.
Subtitle editor questions
Can I create both SRT and VTT subtitles?
Yes. Export the same timed captions as either an SRT file or a WebVTT (VTT) file. Both are separate text-based subtitle files.
Does this tool automatically transcribe speech?
No. This version is a manual subtitle editor. You type each caption and set its timing yourself; no audio transcription service is used.
Are captions permanently added to my video?
No. The captions appear over the local preview and are exported as a separate subtitle file. This tool does not render or modify the video itself.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video is opened locally in your browser. It is not sent to OpenWebStore or an AI provider.
